SmugMug > popular all-time > 14.1.09 - High on Grass :)

Who needs illegal drugs when you have light like this! OK, the saga of the missing book. I eventually found it this morning, under a balloon, just don't ask! I also found £11.20 in the car while I was searching, so a double success. It also instantly relieved my stress levels which were stratospheric last night. Apologies for going AWOL from the Dailies, but I had other things on my mind. Now I'm back, but have 170 photos to process!

Having de-stressed myself I decided that I needed a treat to finish the process off, so I took a trip to a new nature reserve that I'd not been too. The light was magical, soft and golden, the air was crisp and cold, the ground frozen where the sun hadn't reached. I'll post some pics when I sort them out, but this will do for now, straight out of the camera.

Oh does anyone want anymore excitement? The police cordoned off our housing estate last night, imaginations ran riot. It turned out that a conservation volunteer on the local nature reserve had found an unexploded mortar shell while laying hedges!!!
SmugMug > popular all-time > Post 338 11/18/08 A little more Flamingo de-tale!!!

I was just so enamored with the Flamingos. I have seen Flamingos in zoos before, but never saw any with the rich deep orange color of these at the Philadelphia Zoo. I had to post this little crop I did from the back view of one of them.

Thanks all for your comments on my last two 'poultry' portraits...gave me a little taste of LadyKate's specialty! They are really such beautiful creatures! Also thanks on my completing a year on the dailies...It is just so much fun!!!

Have a great day!
SmugMug > popular all-time > 27.7.08 - Classic English Village Church?

Yesterday was really hot and humid, and when you can't eat anymore ice creams or drink anymore ice cold ginger beer where can you go to stay cool? Well I decided to explore this old churchyard and get some shelter under the trees. Skellingthorpe is just outside Lincoln, about 8 miles from my part of town. The church looks very old, but it is deceptive. I've found it very hard to get information on it, but I think it dates from the 1500s, although it was re-built in 1865, and again in 1916 after a fire. It is certainly very photogenic. I have a small gallery of shots here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5548064_iTvPM#339889684_BAiMi

It took me ages to decide on a Daily from these. I did several sepia conversions, some B&Ws and a couple of nice watercolours, but eventually went for this one.
SmugMug > popular all-time > Contested Airspace

The red wing blackbird was chasing this egret all over the wetlands at Huntley Meadows, and when he was done, perched nearby and gave the egret a tongue lashing to boot.

Sometimes I need to move beyond the edge, well a lot of times really, step over the proverbial Red Line. Bad Boy comes out in me, he's always there, lurking somewhere within. Perhaps so long living on the edge, well over the edge, has created this need in me to cross, cross that Red Line, to push the boundaries. This particular stretch of the N1 Freeway approaching the centre city is a racetrack on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Added to that there is major construction as they upgrade the interchange and construct new lanes in the build up to World Cup 2010. I parked on the very edge of the narrow yellow line and stood to the left of my car, using a wide angle lens to capture the oncoming traffic standing inside the traffic lane itself. When they saw me, that did what they do best, foot on the accelerator, hunt down the photographer, hell, the only thing better to kill than a photographer is to kill a road cyclist, and I'm that too. Which is a more scary experience, well I have to say road cycling, by far, and we actually do ride here, for just a short stretch until we can get off the freeway. It's a nightmare, believe me. Well Bad Boy had to chance his arm, and he will again, I'm certain of that, and quite soon too!
